In as much as the Ban see s to maximi e profita ility and protect depositors’ unds, we ma e it our topmost priority to conduct usiness ree rom any li ely environmental and social adverse effects which have the potential to compromise the reputation o our an . In this re ard, our Ban has een consciously wor in on reducin the adverse environmental impact o its operations throu h consistent reductions in its car on ootprints.
In a id to put the ri ht systems in place to orti y all our environmental and social ris mana ement processes, we continue to adapt a coherent environmental and social ris mana ement policy that involves five distinct phases o screenin , ris assessment, decision and documentation, monitorin and reportin o Environmental and Social Ris ESR actors.
Over the past ew years, Access Ban Ghana has adopted a Sustaina ility ool it aimed at cate ori in the Ban ’s Environmental and Social ris s in our credit processes. he tool it asically has three main ris cate ories A, B and C .
Cate ory A consists o pro ects with potential si nificant adverse environmental and social ris s and or impacts that are diverse, irreversi le or unprecedented whereas Cate ory B includes pro ects with potential limited adverse environmental and social ris s and or impacts that are ew in num er, enerally site specific, lar ely reversi le and readily addressed throu h miti ation measures.
Pro ects with minimal or no adverse environmental and social ris s and or impacts all under Cate ory C. Dependin on which cate ory, the an has a stron Environmental and Social Ris ana ement ESR team responsi le or underta in Environmental and Social due dili ence consistent with E uator principles, underta in site audit and monitorin as well as advisin Environmental and Social ana ement plans as miti ation measures or site specific and reversi le adverse impacts as and when re uired.
Based on Access Ban ’s commitment to the a ove ESR procedures, the Ban in 2019 was involved in the review o the Dra t Ghana Sustaina le Ban in Principles and Sector Guidance otes and also ully endorsed and committed to the principles as a means o mainstreamin sustaina ility tenets in an environmentally riendly and socially accepta le approach in our an in operations. ith the launch o the Ghana sustaina le Ban in Principles and Sector Guidance otes in ovem er 2019, the an continues to improve its E & S systems to entrench its position as a sustaina le an in ranchise.
