Kofi Oppong

Chief Risk Officer

Kofi Oppong is a seasoned banking risk and compliance executive with nearly two decades of experience in enterprise risk management, compliance, and financial governance within Ghana’s banking sector Prior to his appointment as Chief Risk Officer, Kofi served as Chief Risk Officer at National Investment Bank (NIB) and held several senior and critical leadership roles including Head of Compliance and Anti‑Money Laundering Reporting Officer (AMLRO).Throughout his career, Kofi has been instrumental in designing and implementing key risk and compliance frameworks for NIB.

His notable achievements include the development of an Enterprise‑Wide Risk Assessment Framework, a Compliance Universe, an AML/CFT customer risk assessment tool, a credit risk matrix, and the establishment of the Bank’s Market Risk Unit. He has also led the design and execution of stress‑testing programs and ESG risk policies aligned with sustainable banking principles. His work has consistently enhanced regulatory compliance, strengthened risk awareness culture, and improved the Bank’s ability to anticipate and manage emerging financial and non‑financial risks.

Kofi is widely regarded for his strong analytical capability, disciplined risk governance approach, and ability to translate complex regulatory and risk concepts into practical business solutions.

He holds an MBA in Accounting and Finance and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Professional Studies, Accra. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Coast. Kofi is a Chartered Accountant with ACCA, a Chartered Tax Practitioner, an ACI Operations Certificate holder, and a Certified Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Expert.
