Online Security Tips

Informed and alert consumers assist in the frontline of defense against payment fraud

Online Security Tips

  • Keep Your Credentials Confidential

Your usernames, PINs, and passwords are the keys to your financial safety — never share them with anyone.

  • Keep Software Up to Date

Using the latest browser and operating system helps shield you from vulnerabilities that attackers often exploit.

  • Use Strong Passwords

A strong, unique password makes it significantly harder for unauthorised parties to guess or crack your login.

  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
Adding a second layer of verification helps prevent access even if your password is compromised.
  • Use Secure Browsers

Always look for the padlock icon and https:// in your browser’s address bar to ensure your data is transmitted securely.

  • Avoid Phishing Scams

Be cautious of emails or messages that ask for personal information — even if they appear legitimate.

  • Protect Your Card Information

Never share your full card number or ATM PIN, even with bank staff. These details should remain private at all times.

  • Subscribe to Alerts

Real-time SMS and email notifications help you spot unusual activity and respond quickly.

  • Dispose of Cards Securely

Expired or cancelled cards should be shredded or destroyed to prevent misuse.

  • Avoid Public Wi-Fi for Banking

Public networks can expose your data to interception — use secure, private connections for financial transactions.

  • Report Suspicious Activity Immediately

If something doesn’t feel right with your account, act fast and contact your bank to minimise potential damage.

  • Be Cautious with Links and Attachments

Unsolicited emails or messages may contain harmful links or files — avoid clicking unless you’re sure of the source.

  • Verify Communications

If someone contacts you claiming to be from Access Bank and asks for personal info, verify their identity before responding.

  • Report Security Concerns

If you notice a potential issue with any Access Bank product or service, please get in touch with us.

  • Log out of Accounts After Use

Logging out after each session — especially on shared devices — helps prevent unauthorised access
